As reported by Creative Review, Peter Saville – bastion of Manchester and all round design legend – has designed home shirt graphics for England’s footballers and their match against Bulgaria. Multicoloured crosses sit on the shoulders which is, apparently, “evocative of the basting stitches synonymous with bespoke tailoring”.

Many have mocked that only Saville could get away with doing so little, however the brief from Umbro requested a minimalist approach and, it seems, they got what they asked for. It’s all in a days work. Literally.

Website design for trading card game based on the popular BBC tv series Deadly 60

In the lead-up to the launch of a new trading card game based on the popular CBBC tv series Deadly 60, BBC Worldwide commissioned me to design the front-end for a microsite to promote this product.

Deadly 60 already has a strong visual identity, therefore the website had to echo this as well take on elements from the trading card collection.

As per my earlier work for BBC Worldwide (namely the Doctor Who Adventures website), coding was handled in-house and my involvement was purely centred on the front-end including wireframe creation as well as Photoshop visuals and compositions.

Creative web site design for the Doctor Who Adventures magazine on behalf of BBC Worldwide

BBC Worldwide assigned me to provide the website creative design and newsletter design for the online version of Doctor Who Adventures magazine (with coding and development being handled in-house).

Taking a cue from colourways, typography and other Doctor Who branding elements, this design also had to echo the look and feel of the hard-copy magazine. From a commercial perspective, the site also had to promote visitors to subscribe.

With a target demographic of 6-13 year olds, the layout is intentionally simple, easy to navigate and fun.

Offerings include wallpapers and icons (provided by the hugely talented illustrator Ben Morris), interaction in the form of a reader’s poll and gallery, as well as the latest blogs and video trailers.

Web design and development, logo and identity for multichannel consultancy, The eNova Partnership

Offering multichannel expertise to many blue-chip retail clients (including Argos, Halfords, Interflora and Marks & Spencer), The eNova Partnership approached me to develop their corporate identity and refresh the front-end of their website.

The direction for the brand design and name was centred around a ‘nova’ being a star, something representing the spark of ideas and the beginning of something new.

On the client’s request, the final solution delivered a conservative – but not stuffy – tone which is echoed throughout the website.

Front-end web design, logo and identity for social networking community aimed at skiers and snowboarders aged 18 to 30

Aimed at 18 – 30 year olds, Shred is a social networking site for skiers and snowboarders. Building on the global community of their existing snowboarding forum known simply as ‘Snow Forum‘, key features include user videos and galleries, job postings, directory, blog and news sections.

Taking a cue from the visual culture that surrounds the ski/snowboard industry, I provided a versatile logo for use on the website and all future branding, plus the overall look and feel of the site including colour, tone, typography and layout.

Website design and creative for Market Defender, a search marketing, SEO and competitor intelligence web service

Working with a top 10 SEO and internet marketing agency based in Leeds, the aim of this site redesign was to get people to sign up for the free trial, in this case the sign up process had been streamlined so the user only needs to enter their email address.

As described by the client, the original Market Defender site was described as ‘sorely out of place, cheap-looking and having a rather convoluted navigation’, so my design had to tackle these objectives as well as presenting a slick, no-nonsense look and feel.
